What is Partial Hospitalization Program?+

Partial hospitalization program (PHP), or day program, is a clinically intensive program for individuals who require greater structure and a higher level of care, but who have sufficient support to live at home during treatment. PHP serves as a middle ground between residential/inpatient and outpatient treatment. In order to be a candidate for PHP, a client must not pose a risk of harm to themselves or others.

What can I expect during PHP treatment for substance use or mental health disorders?+

Through a combination of evidence-based treatment modalities and holistic therapies, PHP focuses on stabilizing harmful behaviors and establishing healthy coping methods. PHP allows individuals to make recovery their full-time “job.” With guidance from highly experienced treatment teams, clients focus most of their time and energy on getting well. Therefore, day programs are highly structured, with a full schedule comprising individual counseling sessions, group therapy, skills training, psychoeducation, holistic modalities and family programming.

Who is best suited for PHP treatment?+

PHP or day programs are an effective treatment option for individuals who have completed a residential program, or as an alternative to residential. In addition, PHP may offer a step up and additional support for individuals who are struggling to manage their symptoms and condition in a lower level of care such as IOP or outpatient.

Does your PHP treat Dual Diagnosis or co-occurring disorders?+

Specialized PHP programs for individuals with dual diagnosis or co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions are available at select locations. Co-occurring PHP stabilizes clients experiencing acute symptoms as well as helping them develop the tools necessary to cope with stressors, manage their co-occurring conditions and improve daily functioning.
